Schools out, genealogy is in! 🌳

Stay cool this summer by sitting under the shade of your family tree… figuratively speaking. Just because school on summer break, doesn’t mean education has to be! A fun way to keep the mind working is by working on your family tree. Our Genealogical & Historical Research Library is the perfect place to spend a hot summer day, swimming through the past.

While genealogy and putting leaves on your tree is always fascinating, research doesn’t have to be limited to just your tree! Every building, home, and business also has a story. Your home could have a colorful past or also been the home to interesting people! Starting with the city directories, you can find your address and learn the names of those who walked the halls or shopped the malls before you!

The city directories are a great place to start but not where the fun ends! Scroll through microfilm, search the obituaries, or ask one of our experienced librarians for help. Our librarians can offer insight into the archives and assistance with your research. If you’re new to genealogy or a seasoned researcher, the library at the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center is a great resource. Membership holders get free library access and discounted services!

Not only do we have an extensive collection of documents, but we’re also right around the corner from the clerk’s office. Sometimes research leads you down a path that may require a little more digging, and short walk just across the street. Enjoy a summer with us downtown, watering your family tree!
