Why is Read On! A KYGMC Program so important?
Forty-four percent of area high school students score below average in reading skills. An estimate of adults lacking basic Prose literacy skills is 14% in this community. For a multitude of reasons, adults are navigating the world without vital literacy skills. It is important that educational standards continue to be upheld for adults. As a non-profit, KYGMC must continue to receive grants to make sure education for our community and our state is first and foremost.
We give 9 high schools, 1 community college, 2 libraries, adult book clubs and adult community members at our events, books. events that enhance the themes in the books are provided to the public for free.
The community literacy campaign allows people of diverse groups and ages to read a book at the same time everyone else in the community is reading it, discussing it, and draw on the history and memories of family members- it is a great source of communication between humans! It takes into consideration the ability to communicate properly with other people and understand the context behind the words they read. This book will challenge adults to make inferences and use deductive thinking, experiencing history and the stories behind it- a powerful learning tool.
